FAQ

How do I apply for the audition?

You apply by completing the online application form and submitting the required video material and motivation letter.
Candidates who meet the selection criteria receive an invitation to participate in the live or online dance audition.

When are the auditions held?

WAYS organizes two live dance auditions each year, typically in March and May.
Additional audition opportunities may be scheduled depending on availability.

Can I audition online?

Yes. An online audition is available for international candidates or for those who cannot attend in person for valid reasons. Whenever possible, we recommend attending a live audition to experience the training environment and studio atmosphere.

What should I prepare for the audition?

Candidates submit two video recordings and a motivation letter.
One video presents personal movement material, while the second shows the ability to perform choreography created by another artist.

What language is used during the program?

Belgium is officially trilingual (Dutch, French, and German). Due to the international nature of the dance world, we use English as our primary communication language on the website, in mailings, and on social media. Most teachers are multilingual, and lessons are predominantly taught in English. Students are welcome to ask questions in their native language, and personal feedback is provided in their native language whenever possible.

Can I combine the program with work or other studies?

Professional dance training requires significant physical and mental commitment. We strongly recommend dedicating sufficient time to training, rest and recovery.

What should I wear to class?

Students may choose their own training attire.
For technique classes, fitted clothing is recommended so teachers can clearly observe alignment and movement quality.

Does the program offer networking opportunities?

Yes. WAYS maintains strong connections with professionals, companies and artists in the contemporary dance field. These collaborations support transition into professional dance careers.

How many students are accepted each year?

The number of students is limited to 20 people each year to ensure individual guidance and a focused learning environment.
This small group structure supports professional development and close collaboration with teachers and choreographers.

Where can I find the schedule?

At WAYS, we follow a no-paper policy. We work with an online drive that students can access anytime, anywhere. This platform provides weekly and yearly calendars, photo and video materials, evaluations and more.

Is ballet experience required to be admitted?

No, ballet experience is not required. However, classical ballet forms the foundation of many academic dance styles, which is why ballet classes are part of our curriculum. We offer lessons in “classical ballet for contemporary dancers,” focusing on its applicability for modern dancers. Our aim is not to train classical dancers but to provide a solid technical foundation.

Are styles other than contemporary dance taught?
