AUDITION PROCESS

Choosing a dance education is an important decision that shapes your training and your future career in today’s dance industry. At WAYS, we encourage dancers to make a conscious and informed choice about their professional dance training. This process begins with a simple question:

How do you imagine your future in dance?

A dance career can take many forms. Dancers may perform on stage, create choreography, teach, work in production or develop skills in related fields such as movement coaching, health, photo & video, therapy, mindfull or physical training. Understanding these possibilities helps you choose a contemporary dance program that supports your ambitions and long-term development. For this reason, we strongly encourage prospective students to attend an open day before applying. Experiencing the studio, meeting the teachers and observing the training environment helps you understand whether the program is the right fit.

Professional dance training requires commitment, resilience and motivation. A supportive and respectful environment plays an essential role in this process. Feeling safe, welcomed and challenged creates the conditions for meaningful learning and sustainable dance careers.

AUDITION PROCESS

WAYS organizes two live dance auditions each year. The program also offers an online audition option for candidates who cannot attend in person due to distance or other valid circumstances.

Candidates submit two video recordings and a written motivation letter. The first video presents the candidate’s own movement material, such as an improvisation or short choreographic composition. This material allows the team to understand creativity, movement quality and artistic potential within contemporary dance. The second video demonstrates the ability to perform existing choreography created by a teacher or choreographer, or presented on stage. This material shows how the candidate engages with structured movement and artistic direction in an imposed dance context. Please upload your videos to an online platform (such as YouTube, Vimeo or Google Drive) and share a viewing link. This allows us to review your material without downloading files.

The motivation letter introduces the candidate as both a person and a dancer. It outlines previous dance experience, personal interests and future ambitions and explains the motivation to pursue professional dance training at WAYS. Candidates who meet the selection criteria receive an invitation to participate in the audition.

WAYS welcomes dancers of all body types, ethnicities, genders and sexual orientations and maintains a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment for contemporary dance training.
